The EMS Division is responsible for the delivery of Emergency Medical Services to all residents of, and visitors to the Town of Madison 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Additionally, the EMS Division staffs and administers the First Responder/First Aid program at on the grounds of the Alliant Energy Center.

Under the Medical Direction of Dr. Daniel Icenogle, M.D., the department operates two fully equipped, Advanced Life Support ambulances. Staffed by a minimum of 2 paramedics, these state of the art ambulances allow TMFD to deliver the highest level of care available outside a hospital emergency department.

A wide array of diagnostic equipment including defibrillator/monitor/pacer and pulse oximetry coupled with a variety of medications means victims of sudden illness, especially sudden cardiac illness, receive the treatment they need to survive prior to arriving at the hospital emergency department.

Each EMT-Paramedic receives more than 1,000 hours of initial training to become licensed by the State of Wisconsin and must attend a minimum of 48 hours of Continuing Medical Education each year. Additionally, each paramedic must maintain certification in CPR and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) plus each must maintain proficiency in starting IV's, medication administration, EKG interpretation and many other skills.

EMS Training Coordinator Bill Gannon, EMT-P is responsible for maintaining training records as well as coordinating training opportunities both 'in-house' and at other facilities.
