Explorer Post 2400

 

Mission Statement:

To explore the career opportunities in the fire service by being involved with the town of Madison Fire Department through education.

 

Guidelines:

  • Training sessions are held on the first (1st) and third (3rd) Tuesday of each month at 1900 (7:00pm). The meetings take place at the Town of Madison Fire Department. Your are to be there on time unless excused by the Chief or Advisor.
  • The Explorer post also does a variety of extra activities such as Kids Expo, Extrication, ect. 50% of these activities must be attended.
  • Each member of the Explorer Post will be issued a set of turnout gear, which includes: a helmet, coat, bunker pants, boots and gloves. This gear is property of the Town of Madison Fire Department, and is not removed from the station unless in use for Explorer functions. Personal use or labeling of equipment can only be done with the permission of the Chief.
  • Each Explorer is also issued a dress blue shirt with a badge. All uniforms and equipment must be properly maintained. When an Explorer leaves the Post, all equipment must be returned.
  • All equipment whether it be gear or dress uniform must be worn as directed by the advisors or the Chief. Uniforms are to be worn at special events.
  • When required to wear dress uniforms, it will include light blue, navy blue pants, black shoes, black socks, and black belt.
  • When required to wear turnout gear, it must be all gear issued unless told otherwise. This includes coat, bunker pants, boots, helmet and gloves.
  • Any training sessions where cleaning is required, all Explorers must participate. All Explorers must follow all orders given by Explorer Officers, Advisors and Fire Officers.
  • By being  a member of the Explorer Post, the Boy Scouts of America has provided a general liability insurance coverage. The insurance does not provide coverage for medical payments or accidental insurance. As a result, the Explorer Post is limited in activities in which it can participate. Explorers must not be exposed to any hazards such as violent patient, traffic hazards, explosions or any live fires.
  • The Fire Department and Explorer Post will not tolerate any insubordination, horseplay, or inappropriate behavior.
  • In no instance is profanity allowed or excusable when dealing with the public or supervisors. If this occurs, it may result in disciplinary action.
  • The use of tobacco products by any member of the post under the age of 18 is not permitted.
  • The use of language that directly or indirectly harasses any person, member or supervisor will not be tolerated and could cause disciplinary action.
  • The use of alcohol or controlled substances not medically authorized will not be permitted.
  • The Post Officer Positions of Capitan, Lieutenant I and Lieutenant II will be voted upon the first (1st) Tuesday of each January. Each officer posotion is voted for a one year term.
  • The vote on any matters of the Explorer Post will be passed by a majority vote of the members present at the meeting. Any matters that come before the Explorer post for a vote must also be presented to an advisor beforehand. An advisor must be present while the vote is taking place.
  • Any vote to spend in excess of $100 of the Explorer Post money must be reviewed by the Chief.
  • If an Explorer has a certain number of unexcused absences for meetings the following repercussions will take place:

3 unexcused – Verbal warning

6 unexcused – Written warning and 3 months probation

12 unexcused – Possible termination

All warnings will be documented and punishments are subjected to change due to the severity of each incident.

  • Any vote for disciplinary action must be reviewed and approved by chief.
  • These are the standard operating guidelines to assist one in being proficient Explorer and Explorer Post while at the Town of Madison Fire Department.
