The Town of Madison Police Department is
actively recruiting to fill a vacant sergeant position. This
position is the patrol sergeant position and is 3rd in
command of the department.
Introduction
This position was previously filled by a
lieutenant. The lieutenant accepted a chief of police position in
another department. We have decided to fill the position with a
police sergeant.
The town of Madison Police Department is a full
service police department with 18 full-time sworn officers and 2
part-time officers. The department has 2 full-time civilian
positions and 1 part-time civilian position. Effective February 1,
2009 our personnel will consist of:

The town of Madison is an urban township
located in Dane County, WI and mostly situation on the south side of
the city of Madison. We have a population of 6,033 residents
(estimate from 01/01/08) and a 2009 budget of $2,053,642 with an
additional $84,597 in capital equipment.
The town of Madison Police Department is an

Day to day responsibilities
The patrol sergeant position is a non-union
hourly position and reports directly to the chief of police. A job

website. The patrol sergeant’s day to day responsibilities
include, but are not limited to:

Supervision at calls for service
·
Assisting at calls for service
·
Responding to calls for service as needed
·
Scheduling
·
Leadership and management of the field training unit
·
Leadership and management of second and third shift
officers
·
Assistance with writing policy and procedures
·
Evaluating and recommendation of equipment purchasing
·
Training officers as needed
The patrol sergeant is expected to be
proficient in current police practices, leadership and management.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office and other police computer related
programs is essential.

Benefits: Range $4,987.32-$6,054.17 per month, based on 1950
hours per year. Benefits include sick and vacation leave, WI

Physicians Plus. The town of Madison pays 90% of single and family
health care plans. Our Human Resources Department has detailed

sergeant elects not to accept health insurance.

Employee’s pay 100% of the cost.
