Applications must be received at the Town of Madison Police Department office before the deadline. Applications may be:

  • hand delivered
  • mailed to arrive before the deadline, or
  • faxed before the deadline, with original mailed or delivered to the Police Department to arrive within three working days after the fax was sent.

Exceptions are not granted. Call 608-210-7262 between 8:00 and 4:30 with questions or if there are problems with faxing. No electronically transmitted application will be accepted. Applications sent as email attachments will not be accepted. A resume or other document received without a formal application will not be accepted.  We do not keep applications on file for future openings.  We only accept applications during an active recruitment process.

 

Eligibility Requirements


High School Diploma or GED

Ability to type 60 words per minute (wpm)

No felony convictions

Good verbal and written communication skills

Clear and concise speech

Ability to perform essential functions of the position

Written Test

The applications and resumes will be reviewed.  All qualified applicants may not continue through the process.  WI Personnel Partners (formally known as WI City County Services) will notify those applicants that are offered the written test.  The written test will take place on January 12, 2008 at 14 locations throughout the state, for exam center locations click here.

 

The written test will be the Office Clerical exam.  Applicants will have up to 4 hours to complete the test; most people complete the test in 2 hours.

 

Typing Test and Personnel Evaluation Profile

The top scores of the written test will be offered a typing test.  Applicants are required to type 60 words per minute.  A PEP (Personality Evaluation Profile) test will also be administered at this time.  Both tests will take approximately 1 hour to complete.

 

Interviews

The Interview Panel will interview candidates starting on or about February 12, 2008.  A second interview may be required with the Police Chief.

 

Next steps

A drug screening will be required.

The department will conduct a background investigation.  The applicant will be required to complete a Background Packet.  This packet may be obtained by clicking here.

 

Number of openings

The department is currently looking to fill 1 vacant position.  We anticipate a starting date of March 10, 2008.
