Date:
April 20, 2007
The Town
of Madison has received a Speed and Aggressive Driving grant from the WI Bureau
of Traffic Safety. This $15,000 grant
will be used for equipment and to add additional traffic enforcement on Town of
Madison roadways. The Town of Madison
will add an additional 25% match in equipment purchases and additional
patrols. The purpose of the grant is to
reduce crashes on Town of Madison highways.
The Town of Madison Police Department will be conducting extensive
traffic enforcement on the W. Beltline Hwy and other major roadways.
On April
9, 2007 the police department conducted our first concentrated enforcement
effort on the W. Beltline Hwy. In 4
hours of enforcement the department made 32 traffic stops, issued 39 citations
and two written warnings. We will be
conducting intensive traffic enforcement on the W. Beltline Hwy and other major
roadways within the Town of Madison throughout the spring and summer months.
The police
department expects the public to always drive the speed limit and not drive
aggressively on the W. Beltline. The
Town of Madison will not notify the public of concentrated enforcement efforts
before they occur.
If a media outlet representative would like
to attend part or all of one of our concentrated enforcement efforts please
email Chief Scott Gregory at gregorys@town.madison.wi.us.
